There always seems to be a new trend when it comes to skin care. Charcoal, oil, bar soap, and now – spin brushes. But do they really make your skin THAT much cleaner?
The short answer is no.
Your skin isn’t a bathtub – you don’t need to scrub vigorously to get grim and stains out. Especially if your existing skin care routine contains active ingredients, like the our exfoliator. Skin is delicate, and you will do more damage than good by using extreme measures to keep it clean.
But why do so many magazines endorse them as being the next best thing?
As a society, it’s safe to say that we have become obsessed with extremes. From our diets to our workouts and work schedules – in order for something to be meaningful and effective, it needs to exhaust us. We do extreme juice cleanses, rather than eating a healthy and balanced meal. We commit an hour a day to brutal workouts at the gym, rather than just living active lifestyles. And we subject our skin to harsh cleansers and creams. But our skin especially is in need of balance and gentleness.
Your skin produces natural oils that are essential to healthy skin. By using an aggressive spin brush, you are both damaging layers of your skin and stripping it of natural oils. And if you have acne prone skin, that is the last thing you want to do. Drying out your skin leads to more breakouts, increases oil production, and ages your skin. Not to mention the hefty price tag a spin brush often comes with.
While we’re at it, make sure that the exfoliator that you’re using is gentle. It shouldn’t have large abrasive pieces of salt, or micro-beads, even if you feel like it’s helping your skin. Because over time, those abrasive pieces will begin damaging your skin and leaving marks.
If you’ve ever been to a spa or a dermatologist office, some skin care treatments can be abrasive. But those are administered by experts and are not part of a daily skin care routine. Save your money and instead, invest in skin care that has natural and gentle ingredients that will leave your skin feeling clean and refreshed, rather than scrubbed and left raw.
