Skin can be complicated, but it doesn’t have to be. We believe that everyone should be their own skin care expert because no one knows what your skin needs better than you. But it takes time to learn, and that is what we are here for.
Here are a few of the questions we were asked on Instagram this week:
Q: How do you repair sun damaged skin?
Well first, you promise us you are ALWAYS going to wear sunscreen from now on.
Sun damaged skin usually looks aged, with fine lines and brown spots. In order to repair this type of skin, you’re going to need to commit to a skincare routine that targets hyperpigmentation and dark spots. This will help the brown spots and discolouration fade.
It’s important to use products that have active medical ingredients, that can work gently to improve the condition of your skin. All of our Salima Skin Solution products are medically approved and supported by leading skin care experts around the world.
Q: How do you get rid of hyperpigmentation and dark spots?
When dealing with hyperpigmentation, it’s important to find product that has retinol or Vitamin A. If you have oily skin, we recommend using the Brightening Retinol 30 Cream and if your skin is more on the dry side, the AHA Renewal Cream is perfect for you.
Exfoliating is always important, and with hyperpigmented skin it’s important to encourage skin renewal by exfoliating regularly. This will have your skin looking smoother and help even out your complexion
Q: How do you get rid of acne and acne scars?
Say it with us – acne is a life-long condition, and there is no getting rid of it. But, we promise it’s manageable with a diligent skin care routine. When dealing with acne prone skin, it’s important to use products that cater to those with oily skin and it’s even more important to never ever skip your moisturizer. When you dehydrate oily skin, i.e., skip moisturizer, the oil production cells kick into overdrive and you will have even oilier skin.
Your acne-managing kit should look something like this:Â
With acne prone skin, your diet also plays a huge role. Try drinking a small teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in your water 15 minutes before every meal, and see how your skin responds. This acts as a natural cleanse and will help rid toxins from your body and improve your digestive health, which impacts the appearance of your skin.
For scarring, the solution is exfoliating. Much like with hyperpigmented skin, it’s important to encourage skin renewal Exfoliating also prevents dead skin cell build up, which if ignored could lead to more acne or scaring. Acne scars are often a result of untreated skin, so it’s important to be using a product that is specifically geared towards acne prone skin.
Q:Â What do whiteheads mean, and how do you get rid of them?
Whiteheads are a type of acne that forms when the dead skin cells, oil and bacteria are trapped under the skin. The solution? Exfoliate ! And don’t touch your face. When choosing a cleanser, make sure to chose one that removes makeup as well as cleanses your first – or double cleanse. Lucky for you, all of the Salima cleansers effectively remove makeup so that you don’t need to worry about a pre-cleanse product.
Above all, remember the basics of skin care – cleanse, tone, moisturize AND exfoliant at least twice a week. These are essential for almost all skin types and will give you an excellent skin care foundation to build on.
And we are always here to answer your questions.
